Ajarn Suchart Wins "North American Trainer of the Year" Award
December 2011

Congratulations to our honoured Ajarn.

Ajarn Suchart teaches out of Siam No. 1 in Toronto, Canada. He has two of North America’s top fighters training under him -- Matt Embree and Simon Marcus, both have represented him well. Marcus and Embree have gone undefeated in 2011, Embree going 3-0 and Marcus 4-0 and it doesn’t seem they will be slowing down. It’s not easy to train high caliber fighters; if it was, every gym in North America would have one. Having two active fighters currently who are among the best in North America is very impressive.

Fearless Fitness: Muay Thai – from The Broken Heel Diaries
Robyn Baldwin, March 2011

An excerpt from "Fearless Fitness: Muay Thai" by Robyn Baldwin

"Then the fun began ... the wraps were placed on my hands and the gloves came on. James asked me to hit pads and throw some knees. I don’t tout myself as being strong but I was feeling extra weak when I threw a knee and fell slightly backwards. James taught me how to grab hold and put power into my movements. I was hooked and excited to go back for more ... Later that week, I came back for an kick-ass circuit class of shadow boxing, ab station of chest flies with leg raises, shoulder presses, punching stations on the wall, punching and kneeing a bag, box jumps, plyo pushups, and jumping jacks.  I was done; my HIIT workouts can’t even compare. I’ll be attending James’s circuit class from now on to ensure I’m in the best shape for my next competition. I had sweat pouring off my face and sore shoulders from keeping my arms up but I was so happy at the workout I’d left on the floor."

Creating Change – Kru James Hines, Old School Muay Thai, Toronto, Canada
Laura Del Farra, May 2010

An excerpt from "Creating Change – Kru James Hines" by Laura Del Farra.

"Shortly after dropping into a class with James, I made the switch ... James provided something that I had been searching for – a positive, tough environment sans personal politics. He’s direct, passionate about Muay Thai and facilitated growth in this students. His primary concern wasn’t about cash, although he needed it. Operating out of a fitness centre wasn’t his vision complete. At the time, his vision for Old School Muay Thai included creating an environment of change for underprivileged youths in the downtown core. When I skipped for Thailand, he was busy searching for his own location to make this happen. I’m pleased to know that his vision has become a reality."
